NEW REQUIREMENT FOR DEA-REGISTERED PRACTITIONERS

All healthcare professionals who are registered with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) are obligated to complete an eight-hour training on the treatment or management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This training requirement must be fulfilled before their initial or next scheduled DEA registration submission on or after June 27, 2023.

To meet this new requirement, practitioners have multiple options available to them. The DEA has sent a letter detailing these options and also included a list of accredited groups that offer the necessary trainings. For further information and answers to frequently asked questions, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) can provide additional resources.
